1.2 million Jobs at stake for net piracy
A huge number of jobs are at stake due to an increase in piracy in the industry of music, film, TV, software and other creative firms.
European Union said 1.2 million jobs were in peril as piracy looked to snatch more than £218 billion revenue from the creative industries by 2015, unless regulators stem the flow.
According to 2008 census, the creative industries contributed €860 billion to the EU's GDP - almost 7% - and they employed 6.5% of the EU workforce, which was close to 14 million people.
Piracy also revolves around the issue of peer-to-peer file sharing, which is illegal and it is done under the nose of Government. In a response to this, the acting body stated that the forthcoming bill would add a clause to keep a tab on the ongoing illicit activities.
Several surveys showed that a great amount of 'creative loss' i. e. loss of employment in the creative industry might be witnessed if the illegal methods are not curbed. The industries comprised a total of 9% of the GDP, which is a substantial amount when compared to other countries.
