YouTube launches ‘feather’ for faster video transfer

googleYoutube has introduced a special feature 'feather', which can slim down the online videos to deliver them to the places where the Internet is unable to handle heavy data traffic.

Basically, YouTube Feather is an 'ultra-light watch page', which has been launched at the TestTube 'ideas incubator', owned by Google. Feather helps in speedy access to the data, mostly videos, by limiting features available to viewers and trimming the amount of data downloaded by computer browsers.

According to Google's YouTube, the 'feather' pages have default video player of standard quality, comments has been reduced to 10, sharing and embedding options has been removed. Moreover video replies, search bar auto-suggest, and the number of related videos has also been removed. But there has not been any change in advertisements displayed.

This feature will help in the faster download of the Youtube pages on the computers having low processing power and in the areas with very low bandwidth.

Through a blog post, the Youtube engineer, Mr. Chris Zacharias said, "All of this result in a user experience that aims to keep things simple and the videos loading and playing quickly. If we see adoption go up along with improvements in latency, we'll look to roll this out of TestTube and make it more widely available."
