Wipro offers campus recruits job switch

Wipro offers campus recruits job switchThe third largest software exporter of India, Wipro Technologies has offered fresh campus recruit, to join technical support branch of its business process outsourcing (BPO) division. The move shows the condition of the IT firm in the wake of the global financial crisis. Low demand and tight monetary conditions has forced IT companies to employee cost cutting and controlling measures. They have now started to employ cost cutting measures on the HR front.

Wipro would assign new job profile to fresh engineers in its tech-based services at its Kolkata facility. Company has so far recruited 8,000 fresh engineers from different engineering colleges of the country who have to join it next year. It has absorbed only a fourth of the 13,500 engineering graduates recruited at campuses in 2007-08.

Vice-President of Talent Acquisition, Wipro Technologies, Mr Pradeep Bahirwani said that market conditions have forced the company to switch jobs to BPO sectors. Technical support position requires engineering graduates and company has opted to select them among already recruited students.

The decision of the company would affect the students from West Bengal, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh. Meanwhile students opposed the idea and said that they have to undergo salary cuts.
