Wipro to move out of Babycare and Oil segment
Bangalore-based software company, Wipro has decided to move out of the non-core businesses like vanaspathi and babycare. These contribute about 3 per cent in the revenue of its consumer care segment.
The decision was made by the management of the company last week itself, said the company in its statement.
The total revenue generated by the consumer care division is Rs. 3,000 crore per year and also has the contribution of personal care products and lightening and furniture divisions.
Consumer care unit holds 8 per cent share in the total revenue of Wipro.
While the experts believe that the company is planning to make this exit as it wants to focus more on its personal care segment, there was no official statement made by the company.
The spokesperson refused to comment on it saying that it is just "market speculation". Some officials of the company said that it had exited the retail space in the vanaspathi segment five years ago.
As for the babycare, the officials said that Johnson & Johnson is the market leader and holds 90 per cent of the market. And it is very difficult for Wipro to continue in the market.
