Since Saturday when Tonya Owens posted a sign on Facebook page with a caption which reads simply “Nice job Kroger. This is from a Kroger in Athens, Ga”, the post has gone viral receiving more than 2,800 comments, 67,600 likes and 100,000 shares. The sign was on the door of a unisex restroom at an Athens Kroger store.

The sign had on it written a note that says, “We have a UNISEX bathroom because sometimes gender specific toilets put others into uncomfortable situations. And since we have a lot of our friends coming to see us, we want to provide a place for our friends”.

According to the sign, people who are expected to use the restroom are dads with daughters, moms with sons, parents with disabled children, those in the LGBTQ community and adults with ageing parents who may be mentally or physically disabled. The sign has been there in store at the Epps Bridge location in Athens since its opening in 2014.

Many people supported the facility. However, there were also people who criticized the same. One even went on calling it is a sheer insanity, while another said he’d never let his young daughter use an LBGT bathroom. One of the female viewer commented that neither her daughter nor she will shop at that store.

According to a recent story at LiveScience.com, 700,000 Americans claim some form of being transgender. That counts as only about 0.2% of over the 300 million individuals. The issue related to needs of catering with transgender community consisting small proportion of overall population is spurring debate in all over the US.
