UIDAI to Cover 60% of Population By 2014
Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is now all set to enroll massive one million Indians each day by October, who will be issued with the unique identification number (UID) under the Aadhar scheme. The scheme has at this instant claimed to cover about 60% of population by 2014, as stated by the top officials.
Nandan N. Nilekani, the Chairman of UIDAI has further said that they have set the target of enrolling one million citizens a day by October, to issue each one of them with UID and he also later stated that the enrollment will further be increased to 600 million over the next three years till 2014.
Under the Aadhar Scheme, the authority will issue the 12-digit number to more than a billion citizens across the country, which would store the basic demographics and biometric information of each individual ranging from a photograph and ten fingerprints to iris in the central database, which can be used for a variety of government and private services benefits.
Aadhar Scheme, which was launched in September 2010, has by now covered 9.5 million people during the last 9 months and has now further moved on to increase its enrollment instantly over the next three years so that it can solve the identity crisis for the millions of people.
