Gaza - An Israeli aircraft rocketed a car driving in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah Monday morning, injuring two people, witnesses and medical officials said.

The strike comes after Israeli aircraft launched overnight attacks on the Gaza Strip, primarily along the border separating the salient from the Sinai peninsula in an attempt to target tunnels used for smuggling weapons.

An evacuated police station in the central Strip, belonging to the Hamas movement, was also hit twice, with severe damage reported.

The airstrikes were carried out after Gaza militants launched at least eight rockets and mortars at Israeli communities in southern Israel. (dpa)
