Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation can Alleviate Tinnitus Condition’s Symptoms

In America, more than 45 million people are affected by Tinnitus Condition. In the country, up to 15% of the adults have confessed of hearing a ringing or clicking sound with no explanation. Researchers have stated that they might have a potential cure for the condition.

Tinnitus can happen due to many factors that affect different parts of the brain and this is the reason that it is quite difficult to treat it. But researchers said that the symptoms could reduce with a noninvasive treatment called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS).

Dr. Robert L. Folmer and his team conducted a research in which they studied the effects of system for TMS on patients suffering from Tinnitus condition. In the study, 64 people were involved for at least a year.

Some of the patients have received repetitive TMS sessions and others were on placebo treatment. The process involved 2,000 electromagnetic pulses per session to target the brain's auditory cortex. The researchers have noted that the system leads to a magnetic field in the form of cone, which can enter into scalp and skull of patient and interact with brain's tissues.

In half of the patients, the symptoms diminished for at least six months. The researchers also noticed that patients who were having the condition for more than 20 years have felt significant decline in symptoms.

"For some study participants, this was the first time in years that they experienced any relief in symptoms. These promising results bring us closer to developing a long-sought treatment for this condition that affects an enormous number of Americans", affirmed researchers.
