After a long delay, at last the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has recommended Rs 10,972 crore for a pan-India 2G license along with 6.2 Mhz spectrum today. This has been recommended with estimated loss in the 2G spectrum allocation. The estimated loss was calculated by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). In this the six new pan-India licenses given out in the year 2008 could also fetch Rs 65,834.7 for the exchequer. In addition to the further revenue from other firms who received license for fewer circles.

The total loss estimated by the CAG is Rs 1.76 lakh crore. In this estimated amount it included new licenses, double technology licenses and revenues from additional spectrum ahead of 6.2 Mhz. BSNL, Bharti and Vodafone hold spectrum above 6.2 Mhz.

Moreover, Trai has also recommended ‘one-time’ entry fee for additional spectrum beyond 6.2 Mhz in a letter which was given to the telecom department.

For more simplicity it has classified valuation of band in two categories. The first one is for the value for spectrum is up to contracted limit of 6.2 Mhz and second one is for additional airwaves. However the price of the spectrum will differ from place to place in both categories.
