Toshiba Launches Qosmio G55-Q802 Laptop With Cell Processor
Toshiba unveiled its new Qosmio G55-Q802 laptop, featuring Toshiba Quad Core HD Processor, similar to the Cell Processors found on the Sony PlayStation 3.
The company referes to it as the first parallel media co-processor, which has four SPEs (Synergistic Processing Elements) that work in accordance with the main CPU (an Intel Core 2 Duo P7350).
It features 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 3 MB L2 cache, 1066 MHz FSB, 4096 MB PC2-6400 DDR2 800 MHz SDRAM, dual 250 GB 5400 rpm SATA drives, and Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT graphics with 512 MB GDDR2 discrete graphics memory. It comes with Windows Vista operating system and 18.4 inch screen witha a true 1080p experience.
The G55 also includes four unique features, such as Upconversion, Transconding, Video Indexing and Gesture Control.
You can upconvert all standard definition video files and DVDs in real time to 720p and reducing HD to DVD quality for reproduction takes place in much shorter time. With Video Indexing, you can catalog video content by images present on screen.
The most entertaining feature is the gesture control, through which you can control DVDs, CDs, and powerpoint presentations, simply by using hand gestures.
This laptop is designed as a multimedia entertainment unit and Toshiba is marketing this laptop to serious filmmakers, rather than just home-theatre enthusiasts. The suggested retail price of the laptop is $1,549.99.
