Tokyo  - Tokyo stocks recovered slightly Friday as investors tried to snap up bargains.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average gained 53.53 points, or 0.68 per cent, to 7,977.77.

The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was also up 3.02 points, or 0,38 per cent to 791.9.

On currency markets at 9 am (0000 GMT), the dollar was quoted at 92.46-71 yen, down from Thursday's 5 pm quote of 92.79-80 yen.

The euro was quoted at 1.2768-73 dollars, up from 1.2653-55 dollars the previous day, and at 118.12-17 yen, up from 117.41-45 yen. (dpa)
