A brand new medical college in Kunnavalam village in Tiruvallur district will be inaugurated on July 12. The college is formed by newly appointed Board of Governors of the Medical Council of India, who will grant approval to the DD Medical and Educational Trust to start a medical college.

At present, State comprises of 16 government medical colleges and 10 private medical colleges.

The new medical college, DD Medical College and Hospital would be 11th in the list of private medical college.

The first academic year 2010-2011 has been approved by the trust and has selected 150 students for the first year MBBS course.

After the dismissal of Ketan Desai on the serious corruption charges  , this is the first time in the country when newly constituted board of governors of the MCI have granted approval to a medical college.

The letter of permission was issued by the Medical Council of India. The authorities have properly inspected and verified the infrastructural facilities of the college before granting permission, as told by TD Naidu, chairman of the trust.
