Thieves make off with more than 8 million euros in gold in France

French FlagParis - Armed robbers broke into a firm specializing in the reprocessing of precious metals in southern France and made off with more than 8 million euros (10.6 million dollars) worth of gold, the regional daily Le Progres reported on Wednesday.

According to the report, the robbery, which took place on Tuesday near the city of Lyon, was carried out by four men. Three of them were masked and stormed into the establishment just after opening with their guns drawn. A fourth accomplice waited outside in a car.

They made off with 300 kilogrammes of gold, most of it in the form of ingots. The robbers were apparently well informed about the company, which for security reasons has no signs or even a mailbox at the site to advertise its presence or business activity. (dpa)
