Thai shares tumble 3.4 per cent on US worries

Thai shares tumble 3.4 per cent on US worries Bangkok  - Thai shares lost nearly 3.4 per cent of their value Monday on a region-wide tumble prompted by renewed worries about the US economy, analysts said.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index ended at 654.25 points, down 22.20 per cent, or a 3.39 per cent fall.

"SET was following the other Asian markets down today on concerns about the less-than-expected consumer spending figures in the US and problems at Colonial Bank," said Chaiyot Jiwankul, an analyst at Country Group Securities.

"Investors are not yet sure that the global economy is in recovery mode," he said. (dpa)
