A complaint made against Microsoft by The Taiwanese Consumer Foundation, which claimed that the company effectively using its monopoly to force sales of Vista is being investigated by the Taiwanese Fair Trade Commission.
Around 56% of people purchasing new machines, with Vista on, would have XP on their new box, whereas 67% thought that Microsoft shall continue to offer XP.
In Taiwan, XP is still available on some new, lower-spec machines.

San Francisco - Hewlett-Packard Co, the world's largest personal-computer maker, saw profits rise 14 per cent in the third quarter on strong international sales and robust demand for high- margin notebooks, the company reported Tuesday.
H-P said that it earned 2.03 billion dollars, or 80 cents a share, up from 1.78 billion dollars, or 66 cents a share, a year earlier. Third-quarter sales increased 10 per cent to 28 billion dollars.
The company said that 5 per cent of the sales boost was attributable to currency fluctuations.
London, August 19 : Scientists from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California have produced a new detector sensitive even to low levels of gamma radiation.
US shipping ports receive about 6 million cargo containers each year. Officials would like to be able to check each one for smuggled nuclear material, but today’s detectors cannot process such numbers in a reasonable time.
These devices typically require an officer to search inside each container.
Washington, Aug 19 : DEET, the widely used mosquito repellent, does not block the insects'' sense of smell but simply stinks to them, according to researchers at the University of California, Davis.
"We found that mosquitoes can smell DEET and they stay away from it," said noted chemical ecologist Walter Leal, professor of entomology at UC Davis.
"DEET doesn''t mask the smell of the host or jam the insect''s senses. Mosquitoes don''t like it because it smells bad to them," Leal added.
