San Francisco  - A Florida teenager who broadcast his suicide over a live internet video stream was encouraged to do so by people watching the tragic event online, ABC News reported Friday.

The teen who used a webcam to live-stream his suicide Wednesday was reportedly encouraged by other people on the Web site, authorities told ABCNews. com.

Abraham Biggs, 19, of Pembroke Pines, Florida ended his life on Wednesday by overdosing on prescription pills. He had linked his webcam to an online body-building message board and to Justin. tv, a live video streaming Web site.

London, Nov 21 : Researchers at Northwestern University in Chicago have made a new discovery that could lead to better cochlear implants for deaf people.

They have found that infrared light can stimulate neurons in the inner ear as precisely as sound waves, reports New Scientist.

A healthy inner ear uses hair cells that respond to sound to stimulate neurons that send signals to the brain. However, hair cells can be destroyed by disease or injury, or can contain defects at birth, leading to deafness. In such cases, cochlear implants can directly stimulate neurons.

The hearing provided by implants is good enough to enable deaf children to develop speech skills that are remarkably similar to hearing children''s.

Melbourne, November 21 : Google has come up with a new tool for its users that will allow them to edit, delete, and comment on search results and share them with other users.

The new tool, known as SearchWiki, will be available with all of Google''s English-language search services.

This will make it possible for internet users to rate and comment on search results, and see how others have rated theirs.

According to news. com. au, the new tool is expected to add a social networking dimension to the services provided by the Internet giant.

Those wishing to use the novel tool should be signed in to a Google account, and any changes they make will apply only their own results.

Search giant Google India is all set to add another feather to its cap. Google India has set up an SMS-based text message service that will offer search services across the country.  

Coming at the price of a regular SMS, Google SMS Search allow users to search Google via text messages.

Washington, November 21 : Devices like cell phones, digital cameras, and notebook computers may soon be available with longer running times, thanks to Korean researchers at Hanyang University who have developed a new material for anodes that are used in their batteries to absorb lithium ions.

Research leader Jaephil Cho has revealed that the new material involves three-dimensional silicon structures that are highly porous.

Lithium ion accumulator batteries produce current by moving lithium ions. They usually contain a cathode (positive electrode) made of a mixed metal oxide, such as lithium cobalt oxide, and an anode (negative electrode) made of graphite.
