Washington, Dec 5 : Toshiba has developed a new lithium-ion battery that can charge to 90 percent capacity in just 5 minutes.

According to a report in ENN (Environmental News Network), the life cycle of the new battery, which is called SCiB (or Super Charge Ion Battery), is more than 10 years even if it is rapidly charged and discharged many times.

The battery is also much safer than other types of lithium ion batteries, which are potential fire hazards.

Toshiba said its batteries use a lithium-titanium oxide negative electrode. That makes the batteries more stable than typical lithium ion batteries, which use carbon-based negative electrodes.

The Google-owned site has announced fresh rules in order to control access to entries having nudeness or a sexual subject but do not constitute pornography.

The new rules will make sexually themed content only available to grownups, and the content will be banished from the website’s more popular pages if the user does not have an account.

The search engine Google has released a new Gmail gadget for its Desktop product.

According to Google, the new gadget will allow users to read, search and send Gmail messages while in Google Desktop.

It will also help users to star messages and use keyboard shortcuts. Apart from this, the plug will also utilises keyboard shortcuts and contact auto-complete.

London, Dec 4 : Mobile mogul Nokia has announced the launch of a system that would link your cellphone to automatic home systems and help control heating, home security cameras and even draw curtains.

The Nokia Home Control Centre is a wireless router, which can interface with equipment around the home.

The company has collaborated with European energy company RWE to manage heating systems and is hoping other firms will sign up soon.

The gadget is being demonstrated at Nokia World in Barcelona.

"We believe that the mobile device is the ideal interface to control home intelligence, especially when the user is not at home," BBC quoted Teppo Paavola, vice president of business development at Nokia as saying.

On Tuesday, Nokia, the world's largest mobile handset manufacturer, launched the N97 handset and also showcased updates to its navigation and messaging services. The latest set will act as another potential rival to Apple's iPhone.

In the first half of 2009, the N97, Nokia's second touch-screen device in as many months, will begin shipping.

It was described as the most powerful mobile computer the world has ever seen by the company's president and CEO, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo.
