Soon China will witness the arrival of a new touchscreen phone, dubbed as the 6208 Classic by Nokia. It has been learnt that this new phone is a regular candybar phone which is still not officially announced by Nokia.

A latest remote, dubbed the Wind-up Remote Control from EZ Power is such that it requires 30 turns on its jog shuttle dial at the base of the device to make it function. Thus it would come as a relief from the old fashioned remotes which require changing the batteries in order to make them function again. The Wind-up remote gets the power in its rechargeable batteries via the turning action in the same way as those Trevor Baylis wind-up radios.

Software giant Microsoft has been asked to lay off around 9,100 employees (around 10%) to tell the market that profits are more significant than revenue growth in difficult times.

In a report on Microsoft, Brokerage firm Oppenheimer & Co’s analyst Brad Reback stated that such layoff exercise would be a profitable move for the company.

In his report for the institutional investors of Microsoft, Mr. Reback said that cutting down the staff by 10% would increase company’s earnings per share (EPS) by about 10%.

A patent application for software that lets users control computers and phones using swipes of their fingers has been filed by Apple Inc., maker of the iPhone and iPod Touch media player.

The users would be able to insert spaces, line breaks and uppercase characters by swiping the screen rather than pressing keys via the Apple's system.
