Websites may soon get ‘film-style age ratings’London, Dec 27: Internet sites could be given ''cinema-style age ratings'' under the government's plan to curb offensive and harmful online activity, according to Britain's Cultural Secretary.

Andy Burnham plans to discuss the proposal with Barack Obama's incoming American administration to draw up new international rules for English language websites.

He describes the Internet as "quite a dangerous place" and says he wants internet-service providers (ISPs) to offer parents "child-safe" web services.

London, Dec 26 : The European Union''s digital library, Europeana, which crashed on its opening day, is back in operation.

European Commission spokesman Martin Selmayr said the website was working after its server capacity had been quadrupled and it had been stress-tested to deal with user interest.

However, a message on the site www. europeana. eu reads, "the user experience may not be optimal in this test phase" and as a result "the number of users will be limited in peak times."

The site was launched on November 21 to great fanfare but was swamped by an unexpected 10 million user hits per hour, swiftly bringing the system to a crashing halt, reports the BBC.

Shanghai Public Security Bureau (PSB) statement read, "Huang was detained by police on suspicion of disseminating pornographic materials." The statement identified the accused woman by her surname only.

In China, pornography is illegal; however, it remains quite accessible on the Internet.
