Shanghai woman lands in trouble over taping her sexual encounter

A woman has been detained by the Shanghai police since she first filmed herself having sex and then posted her video on the Internet which created a sensation among Chinese Internet users.

Shanghai Public Security Bureau (PSB) statement read, "Huang was detained by police on suspicion of disseminating pornographic materials." The statement identified the accused woman by her surname only.

In China, pornography is illegal; however, it remains quite accessible on the Internet.

According to shanghai police, "Huang's video, called East Building Kappa Girl, first appeared online sometime before the end of October and spread quickly among Chinese Internet users. The name of the video is an apparent reference to the sportswear section of a Shanghai department store where Huang worked."

While referring to China's most popular Internet search engine, the PSB statement said, "Based on incomplete statistics, in November alone, tens of thousands of Internet users searched on Baidu for information about Kappa Girl every day."

Huang expected to capitalize on her notoriety by selling interviews and advertising space on her blog. The woman even wrote on her blog that she would give interviews for 30,000 yuan (US$4,364).
