Cisco signs MoU with Karnataka for Bangalore's roadmap3The Karnataka government and the US-based networking technologies giant Cisco Systems has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, endorsed by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and Cisco chief executive John Chambers, to develop Bangalore as most sustainable place in terms of public safety, transportation, buildings, energy, health care and education.

Cisco’s Van Pops Out For A DriveThe roll out of Network on wheels’ (NOW) Van programme was today announced by the networking behemoth Cisco across the Eastern region of the country. Furthermore, the company shared its plans to address the Information Technology (IT) needs of the growing Small and Medium Business (SMB) segment in the area.

The company’s NOW van will cover the key industrial cities of the eastern region including Durgapur and Ranchi, among others. It already covers New Delhi, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Karnal, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bhubaneswar.

CiscoLeading networking company, Cisco Systems has announced to halt recruitment of fresh staff following global slowdown. The move would enable it to cut costs by 2 billion dollar. It would also employ other cost cutting measures to deal with the situation. Cisco has 30% market share in the Unified Communications (UC) domain and it is facing stiff competition from Microsoft and Avaya.

Cisco Systems Executive Vice-President and Chief Globalisation Officer, Wim Elfrink ruled out any retrenchment but maintained that it would not hire new staff. He was addressing reporters in the side lines of the World Economic Forum's function in New Delhi.

Cisco profits rise 4.4 per centSan Francisco  - Networking giant Cisco reported a 4.4-per- cent rise in quarterly profits Tuesday as the company recorded its first-ever quarter in which sales topped
10 billion dollars.

The Silicon Valley company, the world's largest maker of the routers and switches that run the internet, posted a fiscal fourth- quarter profit of 2 billion dollars, or 33 cents a share. That's up from 1.9 billion dollars, or 31 cents a share, in the year-ago quarter as sales rose to 10.4 billion dollars from 9.4 billion dollars a year ago.
