Mumbai, Dec 17 : The Indian team, lead by skipper Anil Kumble, today left for Australia to play four Test matches. The Test series will be followed by a triangular one-day international series, for which the personnel will be different.

A 16-member Test team will open the tour with a three-day tour match against Victoria from Thursday.

On the eve of the team’s departure, Kumble said India has the potential to end Australia's 14-Test winning streak and could clinch their first series victory in the country.

"The last time around, we came pretty close to winning the series. We will definitely go out there and do our best," he said.

Kumble said the team had had a number of experienced campaigners and that would help the team's cause to a great extent.

"If you look at the quality in the side, the people who have been playing, the experience in the side, we have the ability to adjust. I mean that's the prerequisite of the international team now. Whatever little time that we have, we would like to make best use of it. The potential in the side and also the experience, I am sure will help the team in this regard," he added.

It may be the final tour to Australia for batsmen Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and Vangipurappu Laxman, as well as Kumble, who are all in their mid-thirties.

The team is due to visit Australia next in 2011, by which time the above five would be in their late thirties or early forties.

India drew a four-Test series 1-1 on their previous tour of Australia in 2003-04 after going 1-0 up in Adelaide.

However, the hosts have not lost a Test since August 2005 in England and could better their record of 16 wins during the four-match series which starts in Melbourne on December 26.
