London, Feb 09: Pop paedophile Gary Glitter has been voted `Britain's Most Hated Celebrity' in a new survey.

In the poll, over 200,000 people joined 82 groups on Facebook dedicated to expressing dislike for the shamed glam rocker.

Sir Paul McCartney's ex-wife Heather Mills was named the second most reviled on the social networking site.

Over 160,000 joined 35 anti-Mucca groups, reports the Sun.

Rap DJ Tim Westwood came third, with 145,000 people in a group hating the BBC Radio 1 star.

London, Jan 17 : English glam rock singer Gary Glitter, who has been convicted of sexual offences, has decided to drop his legal battle in order to avoid signing the sex offenders’ register.

Glitter had tried to escape the safeguard after returning to the UK from a three-year prison sentence in Vietnam, and his legal appeal had been set to take place on February 19.

He was expected to appear in person, but his solicitor has withdrawn the appeal in a letter to Harrow Crown Crown, reports the daily star.

The ad, made for computer giant Hewlett Packard, used the pop paedophile’s 1972 hit ‘Do You Wanna Touch Me’ to promote a new touch-screen model.

The song, which is featured in a major marketing campaign with TV adverts being screened all over America, is a 1982 cover version sung by US rocker Joan Jett.

But since it was originally written by 64-year-old Glitter, he gets to collect all the royalties, and if the ad sparks a surge in Internet downloads, he will end up earning a lot.

US campaigners are now demanding Hewlett Packard to remove the advert.
