Agartala, Apr 23 : Polling for two Lok Sabha seats in Tripura began Thursday morning amid tight security and air surveillance by military helicopters.

"Over 30,000 central paramilitary troopers accompanied by state security forces have taken positions across the state to deal with separatist outfits before and during the polling. There is an air surveillance particularly in the bordering areas", Pranay Sahay, Director General of Police told ANI.

Agartala, Apr. 16 : Senior Congress leader and External Affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday refuted the allegation of the BJP that the Congress was ''''soft'''' towards Pakistan and failed to contain terrorism in the country rather he claimed that his party is more strongly dealing with the militancy issue and particularly the Pakistan sponsored cross border terrorism than the BJP.

Agartala, Mar 22 : Puppets on strings, rods and hands enthralled hundreds of enthusiastic spectators at an event organised on the occasion of World Puppetry Day here on Saturday.

World Puppetry Day is celebrated with an objective to preserve and popularise the art of puppetry.

Several professional puppeteers and some new artistes in the field participated in the event.

The show enchanted the children and adults with interesting stories, endearing characters, colourful sets, lively music, songs and choreography.

New Delhi/Siliguri/Agartala, Feb 26 : External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said that the mutiny by Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) soldiers was an 'internal matter' of Bangladesh.

"This is the internal matter of a sovereign country. There is a regularly elected government, they are in full command of the situation. They know how to deal with it and they are dealing with it. We wish them all success. It is not our practice to make any comment on the internal matter of any sovereign country including our friendly neighbouring country. So far our border is concerned, it is totally safe and secure," Mukherjee told reporters here on Wednesday.

Agartala, Feb. 3 : Many farmers in west Tripura are taking to growing cashew nut, as it offers better prospects to earn bigger profits.

Farmers get good returns for their produce. The ''Maa Tara Cashew Processing Industry'' initiated by Parimal Chanda Saha has been encouraging.

The unit has given employment to over a hundred people. Ninety-five per cent of them are rural women coming from the lowest strata of the society.
