Are, Sweden  - Lindsey Vonn of the United States clinched a second straight overall World Cup title in alpine skiing in style on Wednesday by winning a downhill ahead of German title rival Maria Riesch.

Vonn, 24, clocked 1 minute 42.49 seconds on the 2,638-metres Olympia course at the World Cup finals.

Riesch had 1:42.89 and Austrian veteran Renate Goetschl was third on the podium in 1:43.75 minutes.

Vonn has 1,688 points and, with a victory worth 100 points, can not be caught by Riesch (1,299) in the final three season races. She also dominated the downhill World Cup with a final tally of 502 points from Austrian Andrea Fischbacher (326).

Bansko, Bulgaria  - Lindsey Vonn of the United States moved closer to winning the overall alpine ski women's World Cup title with a third successive super-g victory Sunday.

The 24-year-old title-holder clocked 1 minute 14.49 seconds at the Bulgarian resort of Bansko, 0.58 seconds ahead of Fabienne Suter of Switzerland and 0.91 seconds up on Tina Maze of Slovenia.

Suter moves ahead in the super-g standings with one race remaining, 15 points ahead of Vonn, while previous leader Nadia Fanchina of Italy slipped to third after finishing seventh.

Bansko, Bulgaria - World champion Lindsey Vonn on Saturday won the crystal globe in the downhill discipline after finishing 12 in the World Cup event in Bansko in Bulgaria.

Andrea Fischbacher won her first-ever World Cup downhill race, finally putting an end to a near 12-year wait for Austria to win a women's World Cup downhill race.

Fischbacher, who is related to Austrian ski legend Hermann Maier, beat Slovenian Tina Maze and Switzerland's Fabienne Suter into second and third place respectively.

Tarvisio, Italy  - Lindsey Vonn raced into the record books as the most successful female in US alpine ski history when she charged to victory in the World Cup super-g in Tarvisio on Sunday.

It was a 19th World Cup win for 24-year-old Vonn who had drawn level with the record held by Tamara McKinney earlier this month.

The victory moves Vonn, who won the super-g along with downhill at the world championships in Val d'Isere earlier this month, closer to defending her World Cup title.

Val d'Isere, France - Lindsey Vonn of the United States followed up a super-g gold by winning the women's downhill Monday at the alpine ski world championships.

Vonn, 24, responded to a scintillating run by Swiss teenager Lara Gut in Val d'Isere to knock more than half a second off Gut's time, with Italy's Nadia Fanchini third.

Overall World Cup leader Vonn posted 1 minute 30.31 seconds, 0.52 seconds ahead of Gut, with Fanchini, five-hundredths of a second further behind.

It was a second silver for 17-year-old Gut following a second place in the super-combined.

Val d'Isere, France - World Cup leader Lindsey Vonn of the United States was the provisional winner on Tuesday in the world championship super-g ski race.

Vonn, 25, claimed her first career world title when she conquered the demanding Piste Rhones-Alpes in 1 minute 20.73 seconds. Vonn came second in the super-g and downhill at the 2007 worlds.

Marie Marchand-Arvier of France was ranked a surprise second in 1:21.07 minutes and Andrea Fischbacher of Austria was third in 1:21.13 minutes as all favourites in the
56-strong field had started.
