Tata Motors suffers 14% fall in December global salesTata Motors on Tuesday announced that it suffered a decline of 13.88 per cent in its global sales in the final month of 2012 over the corresponding month of the previous year.

The Indian auto giant said its global sales slipped to 98,968 vehicles in December 2012, from 114,920 vehicles in December 2011. It should also be noted here that the sales here are defined as despatches from factory to dealers, and not to the end-users.

Tata Motors group's global sales include various commercial brands from Tata, Tata Daewoo and Hispano Carrocera, as well as Tata passenger vehicles along with the distributed brands in India, Jaguar and Land Rover.

The company's luxury brand Jaguar Land Rover sold a total of 32,282 units in December last year. While Land Rover sold 26,838 units during the month, sales of luxury sedans of Jaguar brand stood at 5,444 units.

Total passenger vehicles sales slipped 23.16 per cent year-on-year to 46,925 units in December last year. In the same month of the previous year, the company had sold 61,066 units of passenger vehicles.

Commercial vehicle sales dropped 3.36 per cent, from 53,854 units in December 2011 to 52,043 units in December 2012.

Tata Motors, part of the salt-to-software Tata Group conglomerate, also said in a statement that its cumulative wholesales for the fiscal stood at a total of 881,009 vehicles.
