Taiwan's foreign exchange reserves increase in November

Taiwan FlagTaipei - Taiwan's foreign exchange reserves posted a month- on-month increase to 280.68 billion US dollars in November on interest and other gains, the central bank reported Friday.

"Our foreign exchange reserves stood at 280.685 billion US dollars as of end of November, up 2.533 billion dollars from end of October," said the central bank in a press statement.

It attributed the rise to interest gains and a valuation increase of the euro and the Japanese yen against the dollar. "Between end- October and end-November, euro had risen 0.59 per cent against the greenback, while Japanese yen had risen 2.91 per cent against the US dollar," the bank said.

The increase allowed Taiwan to remain the fourth largest foreign exchange reserve holder in the world - after China, Japan and Russia - as of end of November, the bank said.

Taiwan's foreign exchange reserves are deposited as US dollars, euro, Japanese yen and some other major currencies in major banks in the world. (dpa)
