Taiwan leading producer of low-priced notebook computers
Taipei - Taiwan leads the world in the market share of 12 information and communication technology (ICT) products, with low-priced notebook personal computers
(PC) commanding 99 per cent of the world market, Taiwan radio said Friday.
The Broadcasting Corp of China (BCC), quoting the Institute for Information Industry, said that despite the global financial crisis, Taiwan maintains the lead in terms of market share of 12 ITC products in 2008.
They include low-priced notebook PCs, notebook PCs, motherboards, liquefied crystal display (LCD) monitors and colour tactical display (CDT) monitor, BCC said.
In 2008, Taiwan was the first to launch low-priced notebook PCs, and so far has produced 11 million units of low-priced notebook PCs, accounting for 99 per cent of the world market.
The institute is optimistic about 2009 because it expects the global demand for low-priced notebook PCs to double in 2009.
Taiwan is a leader in the production of ICT products, with many of these products being made by Taiwan companies on a OEM (original equipment manufacturing) arrangement, that is the products bear the brand names of international companies like IBM, Apple or Dell. (dpa)
