Symantec reports higher illegal code activityIt was put forward by Symantec recently that security breaches were experienced by more than half (58 percent) of SMB respondents in Australia and New Zealand, where information has been subject to unauthorized access, and often the data is lost, stolen, or hacked.

The latest findings were released in the 2009 global SMB security and storage survey today.

It was clarified by Symantec that throughout the year 2008, the illegal code activity continued to grow at a record pace, its main target being confidential information of computer users.

In order to tackle with the problem, Symantec has developed more than 1.6 million new malicious code signatures, equating to more than 60 percent of the total malicious code signatures ever created by the firm.

Furthermore, the report also found that during 2008, 90% of all threats detected by Symantec concentrated on efforts to steal confidential information.

If adhered to Craig Scroggie, vice president and managing director, Pacific region for Symantec, then lot of protection was required for small businesses in Australia and New Zealand from a rapidly expanding and increasingly complex range of internal and external security threats.

Mr. Scroggie said, “The threat landscape continues to shift at an alarming pace and small businesses need to ensure they can confidently and simply manage these challenges.”
