Supreme Court to hear Varun''s plea challenging his detention under NSA
New Delhi, Apr 2 : The Supreme Court will today hear a petition filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi challenging imposition of National Security Act (NSA) on him.
The Bench headed by Chief Justice K. G. Balakrishnan will hear the matter.
In his petition, Varun says that the use of NSA against him was an act of political witch hunting by his political opponents.
Earlier, the BJP has constituted a panel led by its former President M Venkaiah Naidu to assess the situation on the ground and report back to its top leadership on the Varun controversy after his detention under NSA.
Meanwhile, Varun, who was lodged in the district jail in Pilibhit in connection with a case pertaining to the alleged anti-Muslim remarks, was shifted to the Etah Jail late on Tuesday night for security reasons.
According to official sources, Varun was moved to avoid a law and order problem in Pilibhit. (ANI)
