Mumbai, Oct.20 : Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds, who was not only the victim of racially charged crowd taunts, but also media manipulation, is said to be looking forward to end of the team’s tour of India.

According to news.com.au, Symonds presumably will be relieved when today's Twenty20 international at the Brabourne Stadium is completed.

A tour of India can be a test of nerves and bowels at the best of times, but for Symonds, the past three weeks have been one of his greatest tests of character.

"Over the past couple of weeks, I have felt as though I have been put in a situation that is not of my making. Anyone who knows me will understand that being the focus of this particular story is something I'm not comfortable with," Symonds said.

"I feel that the print and TV media have badly misrepresented my views at times over the past three matches,” he added.

"I understand that racism in all sports is a sensitive, serious and a global issue. And it is pleasing to see the authorities here in Mumbai tackle the issue after the seventh one-day match. I would much prefer the focus to be on cricket," he said.

Mumbai Police chief D.N. Jadhav yesterday announced a crackdown on crowd behaviour ahead of today's Twenty20 game, following the unsavoury events at the neighbouring Wankhede Stadium during Wednesday's final one-day international.

Closed-circuit security cameras at the ground will be complemented by more than 100 police officers patrolling the stands with hand-held video cameras throughout today's match between the 20- and 50-over world champions.

"We do not want such incidents to be repeated and bring a bad name to Mumbai as a cricketing venue," Jadhav said.

Symonds has attracted glowing praise from his coach, Tim Nielsen, over his handling of the recent racial firestorm.

"The most positive thing from my regard is that he has been the player of the series under that sort of pressure," Nielsen said.

"For me, that is a great representation of how he has gone about things. He has played well with distractions and that shows a strength of mind." (ANI)
