Islamabad, Nov 17: Pakistan interim Prime Minister Mohammadmian Soomro and President General Pervez Musharraf are holding two offices each. Soomro is also the Senate Chairman.

This has happened for the first time in the history of Pakistan that the two top men are holding four top offices, the Daily Times reported.

In 2001, Musharraf was holding the offices of the president, the chief executive, the chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff committee and the chief of army staff.

Though in the absence of the Senate chairman, the deputy chairman heads the upper house of parliament, it is now a unique political development that Mohammadmian Soomro would keep both offices.

“As long as he (Soomro) is the prime minister, the deputy chairman of the Senate can officiate as acting chairman,” former Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sher Afgan Niazi said.  

He explained that under the Article 260 of the Constitution, the offices of the Prime Minister and the Senate chairman had not been declared as the offices in the service of Pakistan to disqualify them from holding any public office(s) under Article 63(d-o). (ANI)
