Sony handovers its LCD production to Kyocera
Sony has reportedly stated that it will be trading off its LCD production facility in Yasu, Japan to arch-rival Kyocera.
Sony the other name for electronics is believed to incur a vital loss due to the purchase of the factory. It is supposed that the loss summed upto Y18, 5bn which was paid 5 years ago.
Yasu, which is accredited for making display units especially the Liquid Crystal Display used in mobile phones and popular electronic devices such as PSPs, small screen netbook etc. was purchased by Sony corp. in 2005. It was a trade off between two of conglomerates one being Sony and the other was Taiwan's Chi Mei Optoelectronics. (Chi Mey itself purchased this facility from IBM in 2001).
It is believed that the sudden change in proposition was due to increase in competition pertaining to the small-screen market. At this juncture the smart move also helps Sony to cut short soon its mounting expenses.
However this move has laid questions on the upcoming OLED display units and the supposed release of the same seems to be uncertain.
