Somdev’s campaign comes to halt at LA OpenIndia’s  no. 1, Somdev Devvarman has crashed out of the ATP LA Open with a prize money of $630,500 after going down to world no 37 Igor Kuntisyn in the first round of the tournament at Los Angels on Tuesday.

The fifth seed Russian proved much better than the second seeded Indian tennis star as he raced away with the opening match of the tournament by 7-5 6-2 in one hour and 15 minutes.

There was neck-to-neck competition in the first set of the match. Somdev broke serve of his opponent twice while his serve was dropped thrice. Somdev went down in the first set by 7-5 after set went to tie-breaker.

In the second set, Somdev failed to pose any challenge to the Russian. He looked off color in the second set and surrendered the set to crash out of the tournament.

Somdev ended his campaign without adding any more ranking points as he had gained 12 ranking points after making in to the main draw of the LA Open.
