Siddle ruled out of Oz-Proteas ODI series with stress fracture

Siddle ruled out of Oz-Proteas ODI series with stress fractureSydney, Jan. 14 : Australian fast bowler Peter Siddle has been ruled out of the one-day series against South Africa with a stress fracture in his foot.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Queensland swing bowler Ryan Harris has replaced Siddle for the first two matches in the five-game series.

Twenty20 sensation David Warner is also poised to be a late inclusion in the one-day squad with vice-captain Michael Clarke in doubt with a thumb injury.

Clarke is due to have an assessment on his right thumb in Melbourne on Wednesday and Warner, who hit 89 off 43 balls in his international debut on Sunday at the MCG, has been placed on standby.

Team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris reported Siddle has been playing with pain in his left foot, which grew worse during the 2-1 Test series loss to South Africa.

"After the series was completed, we investigated and scans revealed the early signs of mild stress on a bone in his left foot," Kountouris said in a statement.

"As such, Peter needs a short period of rest before resuming bowling which we anticipate will be in a further two weeks.

"He is expected to take part in the one-day series against New Zealand in February." (ANI)
