Shoaib may face several charges as PCB disciplinary committee meets
Lahore, Sept 28 : Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar is likely to face a number of disciplinary charges when a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) committee meets at the Gaddafi Stadium here today to review charges against the bowler for striking team-mate Mohammad Asif in South Africa early this month.
Disciplinary committee chairman Shafqat Naghmi said the charges against the controversial fast bowler would be reviewed before he is summoned for a hearing.
On being asked how the committee would rate an apology tendered by Shoaib, Naghmi said it would not suffice, as there were a number of other charges that needed to be probed against the Rawalpindi bowler.
“I can’t disclose the details about the other charges on Shoaib at the moment. The disciplinary committee will convene on Friday to formalise the charges and will then issue a showcause notice to him the same day,” the Dawn quoted Naghmi as saying.
Naghmi will hear the case along with two other members, including Director Cricket Operations (DCO) Zakir Khan and Director Administration Nadeem Akram.
Sources said that the disciplinary committee might hand out a suspension of five ODIs and a fine of Rs 300,000 on Shoaib.
A scuffle had taken place between Shoaib, Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Asif just before the start of the Twenty20 World Championship in South Africa, after which Shoaib was sent back home. (With inputs from ANI)
