Shoaib Malik denies making comment on Akhtar’s “lack of commitment”

Malik denies making comment on Akhtar’s “lack of commitment”Lahore, Jan. 24: Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik has denied making any comments on Shoaib Akhtar's commitment on the field during the first two matches of the Sri Lanka series.

Malik said that he was misinterpreted by the media, as he was talking about the commitment of the whole team and never pointed fingers to any individual, The News reported.

"I was talking about the 11 players who played the match and people did not understand me," Malik said.

Commenting on the lacklusture performance of Akhtar in the first two games, where he gave away 88 runs while taking only one wicket, he said Akhtar lacked rhythm as he was playing international cricket after a gap of more than an year.

"I felt that he lacked rhythm as he was playing after a break of 11 months or so," he said.

Pakistan suffered a loss by 129 runs in the second one-day international match in Karachi on Wednesday, leveling the three match series 1-1.

In a post match press- conference after the huge defeat, Malik had raised questions about Akhtar's commitment and fitness.

"The question is over 100 percent fitness. Cricket has changed and if you aren''t 100 percent fit then it is difficult. Everyone can see what is out there. He has the ability to bowl 10 overs but the commitment in fielding that I want wasn''t there," Malik had said. (ANI)
