Sheila Dikshit Comes Under CAG Scanner

Sheila Dikshit Comes Under CAG Scanner"Let the report be tabled in parliament and then I will talk about it” was the comment of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who has been blamed for making some expensive contracts in the Common Wealth Games 2010. Her irregularities came in to the light when contents of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report got leaked.

Sheila Dixit is held responsible for Rs. 31 crore street lighting, which she chose to use during the games. The price of a single light ranged from Rs. 25,000 to 32,000 each, which was far more expensive when a fair price is computed.

The CAG report has also mentioned about the company named Space Age, which was behind that act, the Company imported low-cost bulbs from Saudi Arabia for Rs. 5,000 per light, but on return, it charged Rs. 25,000 per light from the government. The surprising factor is that the Board of Assessors (BoA) had disqualified them as a supplier, but the Chief Minister gave them a clear signal to act as a supplier.

The Prime Minister’s appointed committee - the Shunglu Committee also held Sheila Dixit responsible for such acts, but her office countered the allegation by saying that the Company had knocked the doors of court, and won the contract.
