Sensex ends flat on lack of triggersThe Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark index, Sensex ended nearly flat on Thursday after a dull trading session as the market lacked triggers both in the domestic arena and the global market. The Sensex closed 29 points up at 17,519.26.

The broad-based NSE Nifty too went through similar conditions to close the day with a minor gain of 14 points. Despite volatility existing in the market, the 50-scrip index managed to hold on to the psychological resistance of 5,220 as it closed at 5,246.

Among Sensex constituents Jaiprakash Associates remained star of the day. It gained 2.53 per cent to Rs. 152.20 a share. Reliance Communications also rose over two per cent to Rs. 164.40 per share.

Industry heavyweight Reliance Industries continued the positive momentum it has shown since the beginning of the week as the stock rose 0.80 per cent during the day's trade to Rs. 1075.05 per share.

The day offered mixed results for the sector indices as seven out of 13 sector indices ended negative. However, BSE Bankex remained the star of the day. It gained 0.61 per cent as most of the big banks registered gain of over one per cent on back of a weak dollar.

While Axis Bank rose 1.68 per cent, Yes Bank zoomed up 1.3 per cent, and ICICI Bank gained 1.19 per cent. Even Union Bank on its listing on BSE today climbed 2.4 per cent.
