Mumbai, June 28 : A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Tuesday closed with moderate gains, having traded in a tight range throughout the day.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 18,493.59 points, closed at 18,484.27 points (provisional), up 71.86 points or 0.39 percent from its previous close at 18,412.41 points.

The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange closed 0.3 percent higher at 5,542.35 points.

Broader markets did relatively better with BSE midcap index closing 0.72 percent up and the BSE smallcap index up 0.58 percent.(IANS)
