Scientists to test new solution to combating climate change in Norfolk
A group of scientists are planning to conduct he test on a new technological solution to combating climate change, which is the first in the UK, at a disused airfield in Norfolk.
The team will pump water through a high-pressure hose suspended from a helium balloon hanging about 1 km above ground in an attempt to cool climate. It is the country's first test in the area of geoengineering, which includes artificially trying to cool climate to reverse the affects of global warming.
The team had already launched its Spice (Stratospheric Particle Injection for Climate Engineering) project at the British Science Festival in Bradford on Tuesday. The team will record the changes in behavior of hose and balloon in different weather conditions. The experiment is to test eh feasibility of injecting particles into the stratosphere 20km high to have a deep impact on the climate change.
Matt Watson of Bristol University, Spice leader said, "The project itself is not carrying out geoengineering, just investigating the feasibility of doing so."
