Samajwadi Party youth lead violent protest in UP
Lucknow, Feb 21 : The students' wing of the opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) today took to the streets here to protest against the policies of the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party.
Raising slogans against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, the students indulged in acts of violence that forced the police into using water cannons and tear gas to disperse them.
SP youth wing leader Akhilesh Yadav claimed that the BSP was perpetrating atrocities against the students
"We demand that the students union should be brought back. The issue of unemployment should be addressed earnestly and the atrocities against the students should be stopped. Also, arrangements should be made for funding girl's education. We are also protesting against the killings of two student members by the police," said Yadav.
In Varanasi, violence erupted during Mayawati's day-long visit to the town to attend the birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Ravidas. (ANI)
