Restoration of judges will not be compromised: PML-N
Islamabad, Mar 25: The Pakistan Mulim League-Nawaz (PML-N) parliamentary leader, Nisar Ali Khan has said that the issue of the restoration of the sacked judiciary and the 'dictatorial' rule of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf would not be compromised.
Congratulating Pakistan premier elect Yousaf Raza Gillani in a speech at the National Assembly, Khan said democracy could not flourish under President Musharraf's shadow.
"Democracy and dictatorship can not proceed together," he said.
According to the Daily Times, Khan claimed that the previous government had been the pawn of the military.
"The last government detained judges. Parliamentarians were sent to jails under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance," he said.
He asked the new government to review the country’s foreign policy.
"We hope the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) led coalition government will make an independent and sovereign foreign policy," he added.
Khan also urged Gillani to immediately undo the controversial Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Ordinance. (ANI)
