Renuka to seek explanation from RAW over suicide bid by woman officer
New Delhi, August 20 : Union Minister of State for Women and Children Development Renuka Choudhary on Wednesday extended her support to the woman Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) official, who attempted suicide in New Delhi alleging sexual harassment by her superiors and assured her of an explanation from the external intelligence agency.
Choudhary also condemned RAW over the issue, she further said that her ministry would seek an explanation from the intelligence agency in connection with the suicide bid and the allegations leveled by Nisha Bhatia.
“The Women and Children Development Ministry will seek answers from the RAW taking cognisance of the incident,” she told reporters in New Delhi.
Bhatia is posted as the Director at the training centre of the RAW in Gurgaon.
She allegedly attempted to end her life on Tuesday by consuming poison outside the Prime Minister''s Office saying that she is not happy with the way RAW was handling her complain.
Bhatia last night said that she is “throwing away her job” to protest the insensitive manner in which the authorities were handling cases of sexual harassment.
“I am throwing away my job and everything to wind,” she said alleging that RAW chief Ashok Chaturvedi used explicit language.
Bhatia also clarified that she is perfectly all right and she is not unstable. “Please bear in mind that I am not unstable. I did it (attempt to suicide) in full sense for the benefit of women,” she said. (ANI)
