Toramaphi (Uttar Pradesh), Mar 12 : The authorities have launched a water project in Toramaphi Village of Faizabad district in Uttar Pradesh to supply drinking water to the parched village.

The project named Swajaldhara program (rural water supply scheme) was launched by the Central Government and is being executed in the Toramaphi Village under the aegis of village drinking water and hygiene committee.

Under this program, five overhead tanks have been installed for the population of five thousand villagers in Toramaphi.

Alakabadh (Bareilly), Mar 11 : Akalabadh village labourers have discovered ancient coins, while digging up a drain.

The length of this drain is 1500 meters and the width is 12 feet.

Padam Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Bareilly District revealed that these silver coins dated from 1218 - 1229.

"Under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme about fifty workers were digging up a drain when they found these old coins. These silver coins dated from1218 - 1229," said Singh.

Lucknow, Mar 10 : Muslims here on Tuesday carried out a procession to celebrate the Eid-E-Milad-Un-Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad.

A large number of Muslims participated in the procession and appealed for unity to both Hindus and Muslims.

"Both Hindus and Muslims should celebrate their festivals together on this day when both Eid-E-Milad-Un-Nabi and Holi are coinciding," said Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mehli, a cleric.

Prayers were also offered for the progress and peace of the country.

Gorakhpur, Mar 9 : Congress General Secretary and UP in-charge Digvijay Singh on Monday said it would wait till the last moment for an amicable seat sharing arrangement with the Samajwadi party in Uttar Pradesh.

His statement came a day after the SP virtually ended the possibility of an alliance with the Congress.

"Congress will wait till the last moment for an alliance with the SP. Yet, we will think on how many seats we can allot SP like they have decided to leave us six," Digvijay Singh said.

The SP has left six constituencies, Rae Bareli, Amethi, Ghaziabad, Dharora, Mathura and Kanpur for the Congress.

The Samajwadi Party earlier announced candidates for 65 constituencies, saying his party was ready to reconsider its list of already announced candidates for 65 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh if Congress comes down from its demand.
