UP village labourers find ancient coins while digging up a drain
Alakabadh (Bareilly), Mar 11 : Akalabadh village labourers have discovered ancient coins, while digging up a drain.
The length of this drain is 1500 meters and the width is 12 feet.
Padam Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Bareilly District revealed that these silver coins dated from 1218 - 1229.
"Under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme about fifty workers were digging up a drain when they found these old coins. These silver coins dated from1218 - 1229," said Singh.
Several coins from different eras were found in different caches.
Tarachand, one of the laborers, bought these coins, as he did not want to loose the treasured possession.
"Yes, I was very much here while the coins were found and I bought two coins for 500 rupees ,"said Tarachand.
"While digging, initially one coin was found, then the second, and they many," he exclaimed. (ANI)
