Kerala-born percussionist aims to break his record in Tamil Nadu

Kuzhalmannam G .RamakrishnanCoimbatore, Aug 10: An Indian artiste is all set to better his own record of 101 hours of playing the 'Mridangam' a traditional drum, non-stop in Tamil Nadu.

Kuzhalmannam G .Ramakrishnan, a 37-year-old percussionist from Kerala, who started his 'Mridangam Marathon' on August 1 will play it for 15 days up to August 15.

As per the Guinness World Records guidelines, Ramakrishnan is allowed a five minute break per hour.

Tamil Nadu devotees perform river-rising prayer on ''Aadiperukku''

Trichy (TN), Aug 2 : Hundreds of farmers gathered at the bank of a Cauvery River today for a ritualistic prayer on the occasion of ''Aadiperukku''.

''Aadiperukku'' is an annual ritual peculiar to the Cauvery Delta -- the rice growing belt -- in Tamil Nadu, celebrating the rising of the river, which is expected on the 18th day of the solar month, Aadi corresponding to August 2 or August 3.

Women in large numbers take part in this festival, said to honour the bountiful river. They take a dip in the river, tie a holy thread on the neck and apply vermilion on the forehead of each other.

Tamil rebels declare unilateral ceasefire during SAARC talksChennai, July 24 : The Q Branch of the Tamil Nadu police busted a major Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) procurement network when it arrested three persons, including a Sri Lankan from Manalmelkudi in Pudukottai district of Tamil Nadu.

The three arrested persons were Kumargurubaran (28) a resident of Chennai, Ramesh (37) hailing from Ramanathapuram, and Manamohan (28) from Pesalai, Sri Lanka.

According to the police, Manamohan was the key player in this procurement network, coordinating the operation.
