Special helpline for elderly revived Recently the number of crimes on elderly living alone has increased. A survey revealed that one of out every seven people above the age of 60 in Tamil Nadu lives alone. 

To give senior citizens full protection, the Chennai city police have decided to revive and expand a toll-free helpline, which was launched sometime ago to address the security concerns of senior citizens. 

Coimbatore plays host to vintage car show

Tamil NaduCoimbatore (Tamil Nadu), Jan. 3 : Hundreds of enthusiasts of automobiles gathered at the Vintage Car show held here on Saturday.

The unique event will last till January 17.

This has been hosted by the G. D. Naidu Charities Trust and on display are more than 25 vintage cars. A couple of these cars date back to 1909.

The car models exhibited include Rolls Royce, Mercedes Benz 170, Oldomobile, Morris Minor, Mini Minor, Ford, Plymouth, Studybaker, Buick, Caddilac, Austin, Hispano-Suiza that was owned by the Maharaja of Mysore, Gogo Mobile and Citroen - 2cv.

The Commission wrote to the Chief Secretary and ordered posting of Amaresh Pujari, IPS, as DIG, Madurai Range; Prem Anand Sinha, IPS, as S.P. Madurai and Praveen Kumar Abhinapu, IPS, as Deputy SP and sought compliance from the State Government by 10 a.m. on Friday.

Commission sources said that the transfers were ordered on the report sent by the State Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta as a measure for ensuring free and fair polls.
