Saudi King urges Israel to act on Arab peace plan

Saudi Arabia MapRiyadh - Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah, speaking at an Arab economic summit in Kuwait Monday, urged Israel to accept a six-year-old, comprehensive Arab-Israeli peace plan, saying it "will not remain on the table forever."

The plan promises normalisation of Arab relations with Israel in exchange for Israeli withdrawal from territories it has occupied since the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and a "just settlement" of the Palestinian refugee question.

Egypt, Saudi Kingdom support Kuwait meeting on Gaza Riyadh  - Egypt and Saudi Arabia announced on Tuesday their support to the Kuwait summit to be held on January 19, refusing the Arab leaders extraordinary summit in Qatar.

A statement, released after a meeting between Egyptian President Hosny Mubarak and Saudi King Abdullah, said they supported the Kuwait meeting in order to find "a way to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza," reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Two sisters freed after being imprisoned by brother for 10 years

Riyadh  - A Saudi rights organization has freed two women held captive by their half-brother in a small room in their parents' home for 10 years, local media reported Tuesday.

The Saudi National Association for Human Rights said it discovered the two women in their early 20s after receiving an anonymous tip, the Saudi newspaper Okaz reported.

The two women were immediately hospitalized after their liberation from the house located in the southern city of Jazan.

"The two girls are in a very bad physical and psychological condition. They need utmost care and total rehabilitation," Dr Ahmad Yehia, a regional supervisor at the rights organization told Okaz.

Mubarak arrives in Riyadh for talks on Gaza ceasefire efforts

Hosny MubarakRiyadh - Egyptian President Hosny Mubarak arrived to Riyadh Tuesday in a one-day visit to discuss means to halt attacks on Gaza with Saudi officials, media reports said.

Mubarak will meet with Saudi King Abdullah during the previously- unannounced visit, Middle East News Agency reported.

The talks will also include means to develop bilateral relations between the two countries.

Sirius Star supertanker leaves Somali coastal area

SomaliaRiyadh - The Sirius Star supertanker, released by pirates after being seized in mid-November, has left Somali coastal waters, a statement by Saudi Oil Minister Ali al-Nuami said Saturday.

All 25 crew were said to be well. The pirates left Friday, with some reports saying they received three million dollars. However, the minister's statement made no reference to any ransom being paid.

The 330-metre-long supertanker, carrying 100 million dollars-worth of crude oil, had been seized some 830 kilometres off the Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa.

Pirates release Sirius Star tanker, Saudi ministry confirmsRiyadh  - Somali pirates have released the Sirius Star tanker seized off the Kenyan coast in mid-November, an official at the Saudi Oil Ministry confirmed Friday.

The supertanker carrying 100 million dollars-worth of crude oil was seized some 830 kilometres off the Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa.

A Saudi ministry spokesman made no mention of any ransom having been paid. Media reports had said the pirates had demanded between 2 million and 25 million dollars for the return of the supertanker.
