Ramallah - Israeli soldiers shot dead a 17-year-old Palestinian near Ramallah Tuesday night, according to Palestinian security sources.

They said the soldiers stationed at Beit El settlement and military camp, on the western outskirts of Ramallah, opened fire at three Palestinian teenagers from nearby Jalazoun refugee camp killing one and injuring the other two.

The teenagers were walking on the main road that separates their camp from the military camp when the army opened fire at them.

Ramallah  - Palestinian security forces in the West Bank have taken measures to prevent killings of leaders of the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the mainstream Palestinian party Fatah by the Islamic group Hamas, a pan-Arab newspaper reported on Saturday.

The London-based daily al-Sharq al-Awsat quoted Hamas members in West Bank as saying that the Islamists plan to take over the PA-ruled West Bank in the same way they took control of the Gaza Strip last year.

Ramallah  - Palestinian conditions for peace with Israel have not changed, a senior Palestinian Authority official said Thursday, in response to an newspaper interview by outgoing Israeli Premier Ehud Olmert and the subsequent reaction by President Mahmoud Abbas.

Olmert, in a newspaper interview published Monday, said Israel would have to withdraw from "almost all, if not all, the (occupied) territories" if it wanted peace.

According to senior Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat, Abbas told a delegation of Muslim, Christian and Samaritan clerics that if the conditions for peace were achieved, a treaty could be reached within two days.

Ramallah  - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Tuesday that his visit to Washington was frank and successful.

He told reporters in Ramallah that his meeting with US President George W Bush last week "was mainly frank," adding that "we said exactly what we had and what was needed."

Abbas made the statements after attending special prayers for the Eid al-Fitr holiday, saying "the visit was successful by all measures."

Muslims Tuesday celebrated the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting, with the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

Abbas said his wish for the holiday is that the Palestinian people achieve national unity and get their independent state.

Ramallah  - The military wing of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement on Saturday claimed responsibility for wounding an Israeli settler in a West Bank shooting.

The settler was slightly wounded Saturday morning when his car came under fire near Alei Zahav settlement to the south of Qalqilya city, according to Israeli sources.

In a statement sent to the media, Fatah's al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades said the attack was in response to the frequent Israeli army raids in the West Bank.

The group vowed to carry out more armed attacks against "the Israeli occupation forces and the settlers" if the Israeli raids continued.
